Learn Argentine Tango in Maine!

Join our community of dancers! We share a love for dance and Tango. We offer personal classes, couples, or as a group. All dance is taught by Tango and Tai Chi instructor Shiwa Noh.

The instructional program centers on honing skills and techniques, emphasizing quality in Argentine Tango dancing. Our goal is to inspire dancers, providing them with fundamental knowledge of Tango, the music, its history, and its impact on personal health and social interactions. Tango, for us, is a discipline that is focused on a social dance experience. Choreographed performances often associated with Tango in today’s media are appreciated but are not emphasized. Argentine Tango is, at turns, passionate, playful, and dramatic. Dancing Argentine Tango is heavily emphasized with improvisation with a partner to the music.

Group instruction is organized in a seasonal format with the focus adapted each season to the skill level of the students. Upon request, Shiwa Noh offers private individual instruction or instruction with a special focus for small groups. Special events and weekend programs are hosted each season, often featuring guest instructors from Argentina and Tango communities throughout New England and the Maritimes. Weekend events will include workshops, supervised practice, Milonga, and discussion. The summer season offers special Milonga events in communities up and down the Maine shore, as well as Tango excursions to other communities in surrounding States and Provinces.

Tango music possesses a rich complexity that has evolved over the past 120 years. Shiwa Noh emphasizes the music of the Tango genre from about 1930 to the present as it has developed in Argentina and around the world. New and old styles are all enjoyed as essential elements of an international Tango experience as it has ebbed and flowed over the decades. You may be surprised at what music lends itself to Tango, as our members frequently serve as DJ for our dancing, sharing their favorite music.
